Thomas Strässle teaches modern German literature at the University of Zurich and leads the multidisciplinary Y Institute at the University of the Arts of Bern. He is also a trained concert flutist. As president of the Max Frisch foundation at ETH Zurich, he extensively engages with matters of artistic estates. He and Florian Schmidt-Gabain founded the Centre for Artistic Estates in 2019.
